If you have just discovered the world of hobby ceramics or you have been painting and studying at one of the many hobby ceramic studios throughout Europe. You may be interested in setting up an operation for yourself.

There are many ways you can do that and over the past 15 years we have certainly seen the business change and develop. Ceramics have been around for thousands of years some of the practices have never changed but for the hobby ceramist new techniques and equipment have made the business a joy to be part of.

A few years ago people taught at home they converted a garage or out building and their friends and family flocked to learn this exciting new hobby. They couldn't believe that they could paint and produce such professional pieces.

Some took it further and they opened little hobby ceramic studios. Where they could teach and produce there own greenware for their pupils. Producing your own greenware and bisque is in the high profit area, messy work but oh so rewarding.

In America over the last few years there have been hundreds of contempory cafes opened. These are self contained units with lots of passing trade where people can pop in and paint and have a coffee or sandwich have sprung up in shopping malls and on the high street. This has given a whole new life to the hobby ceramic industry.

Some people just want to paint at home and produce lots of lovely gifts for family and friends. They then start to sell their wares at craft fairs or pottery parties they throw at friends houses, around the country.

Some people specialise in certain lines of products then mass produce them for local shops or the wholesale trade.

The choice is yours, if you love the craft then allow yourselves to develop your hobby in to profit making schemes.
